Two Two Zero Four – Marrickville

Two Two Zero Four – Summary

On a random impulsive #coffeehunt with a couple of friends we kinda of just ended up here, and I am glad I did.  The atmosphere here is awesome, and very detailed. From the astroturf roof out the front, to the chalk boards near the toilets, and the eclectic lights hanging from the roof, the look and feel here is only slightly ruined every time an airplane flies by.

Another big tick for this place was that they offered a single origin coffee as well as their house blend, and they were excited enough to offer me both espressos (once I self identified myself as a coffee douchebag…) 🙂

The Panama single origin from the Don Pepe Estate, started with a delicious creamy chocolatey beginning and a finished warm and dry. If anything, it was a little too dry and powdery. While as an espresso it was not particularly complex, it certainly was a very good option.

The house blend as an espresso was (surprisingly) equally interesting and delicious. While much more robust and fruity that the Don Pepe, it was much more complex making forward nice comparison. Given the hint of fruits in the espresso I wanted to see if they would be better experienced as a long black, but it seems that wasn’t to be. As a long black the coffee seemed much more dark and dull, with most of the fruits hidden.

In short, I loved this cafe. The staff were attentive, the atmosphere enjoyable, and the coffee delicious. What more could you ask for. (As a side note, the big breakfast here was mighty tasty as well…)
