What I’ve been drinking – El Retiro (El Salvador)

Started the day at Single Origin Roasters with an aeropress of El Retiro from El Salvador (the Pacas Family Farm) and what a hell of a start it was. While it was hot (and the fruits restricted), there was a distinct semi sweet dry biscuit flavour, mild and cleansing, but as the temp changed, it became super fruity. The fruit seems to start as tart cranberry and morph into a juicy sultana, especially around the sides of my tongue. While well balanced, it does linger for quite some time with light citrus acidity.

Then to compare and contrast, I had the same coffee as an espresso and… it felt like it was sucking my face off. It was so bright that none of the complex flavours I enjoyed in the aeropress were distinguishable.

So in summary, avoid the espresso and go for a pour over or aeropress.
