Double Espresso – El Salvador Single Origin – Long Shot Cafe

Having drunk a lot of El Salvador of late I was not particularly impressed with this one. I swear they could have mixed up a normal house blend with the order as it tasted much too much like a dark roast coffee to be a medium roast single origin. Normally I would have expected a floral hit, and maybe a bit of nuttiness. Instead, behind the wack of the strong (and likely suited to milk) coffee was a hint of chocolate and caramel.

I have decided to try the house blend just to be sure that there was no mix up. According to the cafe this is a RFA Organic coffee from Finca Las Nubes on the slopes of Apaneca – Ilamatepec Mountain Range, meaning that it is a high altitude coffee which apparently slows down the development of the cherries, concentrating the flavour. Might have to investigate this for another “Coffee 101” post.

Edit:

Nope.. no mix up… In fact the house blend was much rounder and fruitier than this single. Perhaps the single was simply over extracted?
