Castle Cove Cafe – Castle Cove

Castle Cove Cafe - Castle Cove

If you haven’t read my review for the Castle Cove Convenience Store, then you should take the time http://frid.co/1d0ywzW

The simple truth is that the convenience store makes better coffee. Don’t get me wrong, the fit out in the Castle Cove Cafe is great, the staff are friendly, and they certainly have enough passion to make a go of it, BUT … when you set up a cafe and you make a decision on which coffee to use, be warned, Sydney coffee drinkers have much more experience in what they expect from their coffee and frankly, this isn’t it.

The Grinders coffee offered no surprises. Even as a mac there was no hiding the char and slight remnants of burnt rubber. I feel sorry for the barista working here as they put a lot of effort in to everything they are doing, but with poor ingredients, I find it hard to recommend this cafe.

By comparison the convenience store, who frankly needed to clarify what an espresso was (the small one), didn’t focus on bling, but did start with good quality fresh beans. The owner told me that since the Castle Cove Cafe opened, he is now selling 2-3 times as much coffee as before. I would guess that people do what I did. They come for the cafe, notice the locals in front of the convenience store, and decide to get their coffee there instead.
